This Khukuri was originated in Nepal but later Indian Gurkha Army applied it. The blade is heavier and more curved then the current Kukri issued to Gurkhas. With its origin in Nepal this Worl War or Dehradoone Khukuri(kukri) was later imitated by the Indian Gurkha army in Dehradoon during World War II. Its popularity was such that Nepal could not meet the increasing demand hence Dehradoon took over and started producing it in a large scale. This is how this World War Khukuri (kukri) got its name “The Dehradoone Khukuri” also. This World War khukuri (kukri) has one of the most beautiful shaped due to more curvness in the front part of the blade. It is slightly larger than the current issue. As it is because it was more in use in the World War Days… All Khukuris have two pockets on the back of the scabbard which hold a blunt steel called “chakmak” for sharpening the blade or for striking spark from flint and a little knife known as “karda” used for skinning small animals such as rabbits. The notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of most khukuris serves as conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt, as well as a device for catching and neutralizing and enemy blade.

  1. A

Full tang. Hefty. Clears bush easy. Homesteaders this is your Khukuri!

Described elsewhere on this website as the traditional Nepali farmer’s workhorse and a faithful replica of the original khukuris used by the Ghurkhas in the Burmese jungles during WW2. Just bought it and in heavy use clearing bush, was not disappointed (given I diligently polished the edge for a good 10 minutes on either side of the blade) and edge slices paper beautifully. Also built like the proverbial tank. Get ready to give your wrist and forearm a workout. These khukuris are individually handcrafted which is evident given minor imperfections but then I was expecting nothing less. This blade when properly measured is actually 11 inches. The handle is 5. Fits my medium sized hand like a glove. Be careful of inadvertently cutting yourself on the wicked drop point. The EGKH MD Himal Guru is happy to advise and respond to queries via mail and cell. Thanks for the support Himal. Enough said. Happy homesteading.
